From 2001-2002, before I began to design with Dragon for Keylemanjahro School of Arts and Culture I assisted the group during all of their presentations as a handler, seamstress, security, and documenter. The experience led the way to a future collaborating with Dragon and the group on thematic design and character development for their Junior Carnival presentations and competitions. This is a recap of all of their presentations during the 2002 Carnival Season in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago. The video premiered at CCA7 Caribbean Contemporary Arts, Trinidad in Laventille, was screened on Trinidad and Tobago National Television and was used by Keylemanjahro for the promotion of their group. Artist Laura Anderson Barbata, in collaboration with the Brooklyn Jumbies, Chris Walker and Jarana Beat, presented Intervention: Indigo on Sunday, September 13, 2015 in Bushwick, Brooklyn. The work combines procession, protest, performance, music and dance. Intervention: Indigo Barbata, the Brooklyn Jumbies, Chris Walker and Jarana Beat bring to New York a worldwide practice to remind viewers of the global resonance of the crisis impacting the lives of people of color living in this country. There is an obligation for a public call to action – one that draws attention to the urgent need to elevate and change the values and practices of the police and the systems that support these views.
